Anderson Automatically Qualifies for NCAA
Anderson '10 finished 4th in 4:25.59 to automatically qualify for her first NCAA meet. Meghan Burns '10, who ran a great PR to make the finals, finished 12th in 4:33. In the 3,000m steeplechase Betsy Graney lowered her own freshman record by nearly 10 seconds, finishing seventh in 10:31.47. Emily Arena lowered her own career-best effort to 10:52.20 in finishing 17th which ranks her fifth all-time at the College. In the hammer throw Abby Lemon finished her season with a 17th-place finish after throwing 159’ 10” and in the shot put Carly Morse registered a put of 44’ 6”, the second-best of her career, to finish 24th. More Harry Miller ran 9:10.96 for 13th place, only 28 hundredths of a second shy of qualifying for the national at-large pool. Rob Dennis finished 31st in 9:56.46 to finish his long and successful career. More

On June 4th, Burns, Lewis, Graney, Fitzgerald and Grevel will find out if they qualify at large for the NCAA meet.

Miller Prepares for his Steeple Tonight
Miller '10 continues with his Regionals blog: Didn't really do too much Friday. Went over to the track at around 11:00 to run and do some strides. I would have liked to use the water pit a couple times, but weweren't allowed on the track. Felt pretty terrible running at first, but I think it was just the humidity, because I felt great doing strides and going over hurdles .Took a nap after we got back to the hotel, and then ate lunch and went back to the track to watch the prelims of the 1500. Walked around the area near the hotel trying to find somewhere to eat dinner; felt good to stretch out a little bit instead ofjust sitting in the room.

Kazuba Qualifies for NCAA Meet
Nicole Kazuba took fourth in the pole vault to earn one of the five automatic-qualifying spots in the event in 12’ 11.75” which is the second-best of her career. In the 800m Allie Lewis ran the fastest time in school history, 2:08.30 placing 11th in preliminaries and making her eligible to be selected on an at-large basis to the NCAA Championships. Emily Anderson ran 4:22.01 in preliminaries and Meghan Burns ran a career-fast 4:24.83 which ranks fourth in school history. Both will run in the finals today. More. Ian Fitzgerald ran 14:14.95 in the 5,000m race Friday night, finishing in eighth place in the 24-man field. By dint of finishing in the top 12, Fitzgerald is eligible to be selected as an at-large entry to the NCAA Championships. Patterson Wilhelm ran 14:35.00 for 15th place. Steeplechaser Harry Miller Blogs From Regionals
Got up at 4:45 to go to the airport. Had to sit in the middle seat on the way to Jacksonville, but the flight attendant gave me about a hundred bags of peanuts for moving so that some kids could sit with their mom.
Drove from Jacksonville to Tallahassee. Gibby missed the the first exit where we were going to get lunch, but we still found a Subway. We got to the hotel around 1:00. Took a shower, and slept until a little after 5:00.
Went out to the track at 5:30, ran around the Florida State campus with Rob, Fitz, and Pat, and did 4x200 on the track. Felt pretty stiff at first, but then actually felt better than I have in a while on the track, and definitely much better than I expected after traveling. I liked the track a lot, it felt fast.

National Qualifying Meet
It's finally here. At the regional meet, the top five athletes in each event and the next seven nationally by time, will qualify for the national meet. In addition to the 13 listed below, Katie Guevel has provisonally qualified in the heptathlon with 5158 points and is ranked 39th in the NCAA). (regional ranking in parentheses) For the women, Emily Anderson (5) leads the way with a 4:17.02 1500 and joining her is Meghan Burns (39) with her 4:30. In the steeple, frosh Betsy Graney (18) and Emily Arena (35) have 10:41 and 10:54 respectively while Allie Lewis (38) has run a 2:09.68 in the 800. Field eventers Abby Lemon (19) has a 53.34 in the hammer and Carly Morse (35) is going with her 13.81m in the shot put while Cam Shriver (10) has qualified in the high jump with a 2.10m and Nicole Kazuba (5) has made it in the pole vault. Rob Dennis (36) and Harry Miller (5)are both going in the steeplechase with a 9:08 and a 8:49. Ian Fitzgerald (24, 9) has a 3:45.74 in the 15oo and a 13:55 5K. Joining Ian will be Patterson Wilhelm (32) with his 14:16.80 and Lynn Morelli (40) with a 16:46.

IC4A/ECAC Finishes with Two W&M Victories
Senior Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) started the day for W&M by winning the 1,500m with a furious sprint down the home stretch, and timed 3:46.26, only five hundredths of a second ahead of the runner-up. It is Fitzgerald’s first individual IC4A title, but second overall as he ran the mile leg of the championship distance medley relay team at the 2007 indoor championships. More Sophomore Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.) cruised to one-second victory in the 3,000m run, timing 9:33.32 for her second ECAC gold medal.
Junior Lynn Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned All-East honors with her sixth-place finish with a time of 9:48.91. More Pictures and video will be coming in the next few days.

Four More Earn All-East Honors
Sophomore Nicole Kazuba (Chantilly, Va.) had been pounding against the 13-foot barrier all spring, and finally broke through Saturday to win the ECAC pole vault title with a height of 13’ 1.5”. Also in the pole vault, freshman Emily Jeremiah (Mechanicsville, Va.) vaulted 12’ 3.5” for fifth place and her first All-East award. The jump also gave her W&M’s freshman outdoor record. Both of the College’s heptathletes persevered through adversity through the last three events to earn All-East honors. Freshman Katie Guevel (Burlington, Kan.) finished sixth with 4,642 points, and senior Brenna Blevins (Pulaski, Va.) finished her career by taking eighth with a score of 4,534 points. More

IC4A Meet Opens w. Four Earning All-East
Sophomore Patterson Wilhelm (Lynchburg, Va.) earned the Tribe’s first All-East award of the weekend, placing fourth in the 5,000m run with his second fastest race ever, 14:19.23. In the same race, senior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.) ran 14:49.45 for 29th, and junior Charlie Swartz (Manassas, Va.) was 30th in 14:49.62. CAA Champion Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) ran the team’s season-best time in the 10,000m, timing 30:23.09 for fifth place and All-East honors. More
Freshman Betsy Graney (Harper Woods, Mich.) was just off of career-best pace in the 3,000m steeplechase, but still ranked third in the field with her time of 10:41.68 to earn All-East honors for the first time. Junior Emily Arena (Manassas, Va.) also ran the steeplechase, finishing 20th in 11:24.99. In the 5,000m run, senior Emily Gousen (Arlington, Va.) was named All-East for the sixth time in her career after taking fifth in 17:01.98. IC4A/ECAC Championships This Weekend
The Tribe has achieved 27 qualifying marks for the ECAC Championships, and will send 20 women and two relays up to Princeton, the largest squad in school history. Two returning champions (Emily Anderson and Brenna Blevins) are included in the group. The men’s team is also sending a large crew to the IC4A meet, with 16 athletes and one relay representing 22 qualifying marks. More and more

Post Season Marks Set at Taylor Cattle Farm Meet
Emily Anderson returned to competition in the 1500 and qualified for the NCAA regional meet as well as provisionally for the US Olympic Trials. Her time of 4:17.02 set a new school record by 2 seconds besting All-American Emily Furia and is now the 6th fastest time among NCAA runners this spring. Joining her in NCAA regional qualifying was Nicole Kazuba in the pole vault and Ian Fitzgerald who won by a minute in the 5K. Qualifying for the IC4A/ECAC meet was Bryce Wilk (steeple), Brian Skldowski and Alex Heacock (15oo), Emily Jeremiah (pole vault), Kelly Elroy (800) and Katie Guevel (100 m h). Andrew Mearns also nabbed a trip to the USA Track and Field Junior Championships.

William and Mary at the Outdoor NCAA Meet
If you click here, it will take you to a site that has every outdoor result up to 2005. You can see the entire meet results or if you plug in a name and "College of William and Mary," you can see individual times. So for example, I looked myself up from outdoors my senior year (way back in the pre-history - 1986) and saw my place, time and even points for the meet. So if you are a statistics nut, you should have a lot of fun with this site.

Peyton Jordan Invite
Patterson Wilhelm took eighth in his section of the 5,000m in 14:16.80 (click here for the full video), a PR by six seconds and re-affirmed his qualification to the IC4A Championships. Tribe assistant Ed Moran ’03 ran in the top heat of the 5,000m and placed eighth in 13:30.75, besting the automatic standard for the Olympic Trials. Women’s head coach Kathy Newberry ’00 ran very near to her lifetime-best in the 10,000m, crossing the line in 32:50.97 to finish close behind the Olympic Trials automatic mark of 32:45.00. Ian Fitzgerald earned his NCAA Regional berth with a fifth-place 13:56.35. Fitzgerald led for the entire second mile and into the third while shaving a full second off of the career-best mark he set here last season, and ranks as the seventh-fastest runner in school history. Payton Jordan Meet is Live Tonight
Flotrack will show the "big" races live tonight at the Stanford meet which you can see here. They do not define "big," but suffice it to say that Moran and Newberry's races will be streamed live (see time schedule). I will have links to recorded races for the other W&M runners up here on Monday morning (see two stories below for who is running).

Final Exam Break at GMU
Redshirt-freshman Lewis Woodard (Charlotte, N.C.) earned the first IC4A qualification of his career Saturday, running 3:51.86 in the 1,500m for fourth place. Senior Karl Lang (Oak Hill, Va.) was fifth in 3:52.15, just behind the qualifying standard (3:52.00). Freshman Brian Sklodowski (Newark, Del.) ran 3:55.52 for 10th place, re-qualifying for this summer’s USAT&F Junior National Championships with his best time of season thus far. More

Freshman Emily Jeremiah (Mechanicsville, Va.) tied her career-best in the pole vault to re-affirm her qualification to the ECAC Championships, clearing 11’ 11.75” to win the event and lead a Tribe sweep of the top four positions. Jeremiah is tied for third all-time at the College with senior Erin Gnass (Brentwood, Tenn.), who took second this afternoon with a vault of 11’ 5.75”. Sophomore Jennifer Garrott (Burke, Va.) improved her career-best nearly six inches to take third, clearing 10’ 11.75” to move up to a tie for ninth on the Tribe’s all-time top performers list. Senior Nicole Bost (Mechanicsville, Va.) rounded out the team’s showing with her fourth-place vault of 10’ 6”. More

Betsy Graney '11 Jumps to Steeple Success
Freshman Betsy Graney won the college division race at the Penn Relays with a career-fast 10:41.25 (which you can see in its entirety by clicking here), breaking the freshman record she set four weeks ago and ranking her 4th on the all-time list.
